Moorish Tile
These tiles are crafted according to the Hispano-Moresque tradition, usually mixing elements of both Moroccan and Spanish design. This is the case because the term ‘Moorish’ is derived from the term ‘Moors’, which refers to several historic and modern populations of Muslim (and earlier non-Muslim) people of Berber and Arab descent from Northern Africa, who occupied large parts of Spain and other parts of the Mediterranean for several centuries. During the rule of the Moorish Empire with Andalusia being the heart of it, artisans fused certain Moroccan and Spanish design elements and techniques. The term Moorish tile is commonly used interchangeably with Moroccan tile. For more detailed information please go to Moroccan Tile.
